4 months in and still very warm and comfortable easy break in one negative is I wish there was a pull strap on the back
I will be the first to admit that when I typically buy something I need I go with the cheapest possible solution. There are exceptions to this but footwear has never been one of them.I work on a farm so my boots take a beating. Usually I can get about a year out of a $60 pair from walmart. This year however my new pair didn't even make it a year, the interiors wore out and I was getting blisters and places wear it was rubbed raw on my feet. So I gave in, did some research into some more quality boots and gave these a shot. I have bought Carhartt coats and hats before and know what a quality brand they are.I will go beyond saying that these are the most comfortable boots I have ever worn and say that they are the most comfortable footwear I have ever owned. Even when I put gel insoles into the other shoes/boots. I've already put them through some paces testing out the waterproofing and composite toe and they did not disappoint. My feet remained dry and safe. When combined with a pair of the Carhartt Men's Force socks they feel amazing. I worked a 13 hour shift doing a multitude of things and being on my feet all day. Climbing on and off trailers for a good 7 of those hours. And ONLY THEN did my feet really start to bother me at all, my feet would have been dying by the end of that in my old boots. If these last for a few years then I definitely know what my next pair of boots will be.
These boots are very good quality, confortable and really waterproof. This is my second pair of the same ones.
Great quality. This is my second pair of the same boots. Awesome price and shipping time.
Great boots, I had a pair of the 6in boots when I worked in an auto shop they lasted almost 2 years which is great considering most boots only ever lasted me 6-8 months. These 8in boots with the insulation have been great thus far. Break in was a little tougher than I thought but no worse than a good pair of cowboy boots. I work building and ground maintenance for a large apartment complex and these boots are perfect, light enough to go up and down the stairs from the third floor units all day but the composite toe gives that extra security when working with heavy appliances and the like. Good ankle support for doing grounds work and standing on ladders for extended times. Water proofing and insulation is great for dealing with flooded units and blocked storm drains. Overall good boots for the money.
I bought these boots because of 2 reasons. The name brand and waterproof. Well after wearing them approximately 250 times they are falling apart. That may seem like a lot of days but you can see the leather is still good however the soles are falling off.I’d expect for that amount of money and brand recognition they would still be good.Don’t buy them.#carhart
Bought for my son size 13. They fit perfectly
These boots are an excellent find for me. I don't work in a manufacturer setting or outside, but am a Training Chief, largely classroom. The Boots do somehow help to place emphasis on theories and principles of the industry I work in!
Comfortable and durable, great quality
Original review below, update is at the bottom in brackets.I purchased these boots for my job as a millwright. That's very important to remember when reading this. It's critical to me that boots fit well and are comfortable to get good marks from me. I'm on my feet for 11-18 hours a day, 5 days a week, walking and climbing over rough floors and debris. It's critical that the boots are well made, have good grip, and are resilient. I wade through water, I balance on chain races and machine frames 30 odd feet above concrete, I clamber over debris and up ladders, I weld and fabricate which means they'll be exposed to molten steel, I have to frequently stand or walk across smooth, steeply sloped steel plates, they'll get exposed to heat, steam, cold, wet, dry, oils, greases, impacts, and cuts. And I need boots that can take all of that in stride (puns aside). My boots do more to keep me from grievous bodily harm, dismemberment, and death than just about anything other than my own presence of mind, and the ability to trust them to do that is the metric by which these will be judged. And these are pretty great by most metrics. You have high sides which are pretty comfy and offer good ankle support, and the protective caps on the heel and toe are going to greatly increase boot life. The steel shanks are rigid enough to be felt but not so rigid as to be uncomfortable or hurt your footing while walking/climbing.The lacing eyes are robust and well distributed (some boots space them out too much or too little and that causes pressure and premature wear problems). The tongue is leather capped, so you don't need to worry much about steel slag burning your feet when you're welding/cutting.The leather feels good quality and is decently thick without losing flexibility, the stitching is quality, and the seams well sealed. So, negatives? It comes down to 2 issues for me. The tread material is pretty stiff, and gets stiffer in the cold, which means it isn't as grippy as I like. Add in a little hydraulic oil and I've felt my feet skip a few times the last couple shifts, and I have some issues with grip when I'm walking on smooth steel surfaces. (Update: This has largely resolved as they've broken in, but they are still slightly less grippy than I would like)Second, and a bigger issue for me, (updated with current info) is that there was a pretty bad pressure point in the left boot, the leather folded inward between a couple of the lacing eyes and put hard pressure on my ankle, even with the boot laced fairly loose. I packed a shop rag into that spot to try to stretch and train the leather to fold out and that worked well after a week of daily oiling and use. This may just be a quality control issue, but it's a negative for meIn summary. These are good quality, the price is fair, and they are some of the better boots I've had in 9 years of industrial work.I'm sure they'll serve you well in just about all applications, but if you work in SD, Alaska, or any other environment that gets below 0 regularly, consider talking to local industrial or construction workers about their boot choice.I do strongly recommend purchasing decent leather laces if you do any kind of fabrication work though, the laces that ship in the boots are synthetic so they'll melt through pretty easily.(I ordered these on 02/28/23, it is 07/20/23 at the time of writing this.I have oiled these with neetsfoot oil twice a week and wiped them clean daily after work.Despite this I was startled today when I was welding while standing in a shallow puddle of water and received a damn good shock when changing electrodes. Apparently the leather has already worn through and both boots have developed a crack/hole right above the seam that connects the upper and lower in almost exactly the same spot next to the balls of my feet. (Please see attached pictures)This was not an impact or similar sudden damage, I make a point of not dropping things on my feet or kicking things at work. The leather is only a single thin layer in that spot, probably to improve flexibility, but strength was sacrificed to accomplish that. Not a good thing in my opinion.A double layer extending up from the sole even half an inch would likely prevent this issue while still allowing decent flexibility. In short, I am deeply disappointed and rather annoyed that I spent nearly $200 on work boots that seemed great but lasted roughly as long as a $50 pair of Brahma boots from Wal-Mart.I will continue to wear them until the rain starts again here in Washington as the Carhartt warranty does not cover wear damage and then purchase a more professional brand that actually warranties their product and lasts.)Thank you for attending my TED Talk and have a lovely day.
